Under the Issue
One under the surface issue though is the time it would take to under go such a huge project of making Mars habitual.
If every part of sunlight was exactly 100% efficient, Mars could be warmed in 10 years and finally thawed in 60 years. This doesn't seem too long right? Well
sunlight is NOT 100% efficient. Even with the "green house" gases described in the information page, it would only be about 10% efficient. So...a carbon dioxide rich planet would take about
100 years and a water planet could be made in about 600 years. Many scientists are just greatful that these plans did not turn out to be in millions of years.
Money is also an issue. Some people are starting to get upset over how NASA seems to be "wasting its money". In a current TIME magazine, it had a chart showing how we have wasted billions on Mars projects that crashed or did not work.
However, some say that the current NASA Mars program could already pay for this. However, some would feel angry that so many billions of dollars are spent on a planet that is so miles away.
